A moment that felt like Hozier’s yell 🥹 Today, I A moment that felt like Hozier’s yell 🥹

Today, I had the honour of joining an incredible group of panelists at Colorectal Cancer Canada’s Patient-Centered Approach to Clinical Trials conference in Montreal, discussing a question close to my heart: “Why Patients Need More Trials Now.”

I felt so honoured to share the stage with people working toward a future where patients have more options, more hope, and a greater voice in the research that affects their lives.

As someone who has lived with IBD (ulcerative colitis) for most of my life, participated in clinical trials, and faced a colorectal cancer diagnosis, I know what it feels like to need another option. To hope for something new when the things you’ve tried haven’t worked. To want more answers and more possibilities.

That’s why this work matters to me. Clinical trials aren’t just data or research. They represent hope, possibilities, and potentially life-changing options for real people.

When I started Gutsy Girl Diaries, I wanted to share my story so others wouldn’t feel so alone in theirs. I never imagined it would lead to moments like this: sitting at the table, sharing the patient perspective, and advocating for change.

Today felt bigger than a panel discussion. It felt like a reminder of why I use my voice, even when sharing the hard parts of my story feels vulnerable.

Patients deserve a seat at the table. We deserve to help shape the research, the conversations, and the future of the treatments we may one day depend on.

Here’s to more trials. More patient voices. More possibilities.
More collaboration.

Some moments deserve a quiet thank you. Others deserve a full Hozier yell. This one deserves the yell. 💙💙

Much love and #staygutsy xo

One Community. Stronger Together. 💙 This World Os One Community. Stronger Together. 💙

This World Ostomy Day, I’m celebrating something that has become such an important part of my story: my ostomy and the incredible community that comes with it.

My journey hasn’t always been easy, but finding my voice, sharing the real-life moments, and connecting with others who get it has reminded me just how powerful community can be.

From the people who share their stories, to those who educate, advocate, listen, encourage and simply remind us that we’re not alone, we are stronger together. 💙

Today, I’m proud to stand alongside ostomates around the world and help make these conversations a little more visible, a little more comfortable, and a lot less taboo.

Here’s to every person finding their way, reclaiming their confidence, and living life on their own terms. 💙

Four years ago today. 💜 I’ve shared this before, Four years ago today. 💜

I’ve shared this before, but today marks four years since my last ever colonoscopy before my colorectal cancer diagnosis, and I felt called to share it again.

Four years ago, I had no idea how much my life was about to change. Looking back at this photo, I remember the person I was then, someone who had spent most of her life navigating chronic illness, doctor’s appointments, tests, procedures, and feeling unwell more days than not.

I was no stranger to colonoscopies, bloodwork, scans, and waiting for answers. But I never imagined that this particular colonoscopy would be part of a journey that would change my life forever.

There’s a lot of emotion that comes with looking back. Grief for the person I was. Gratitude for the person I’ve become. And a deep appreciation for everything I’ve learned along the way.

For so long, IBD was such a huge part of my identity, it was simply my normal. Then cancer became part of my story too, something I never expected and certainly never asked for.

Four years later, I still have moments when I’m processing it all.

But I’ve also learned that we can grieve who we were while still being proud of who we’ve become.

So today, I’m allowing myself to feel all of it. The sadness, the gratitude, the memories, the growth, and everything in between. And if sharing my story helps even one person feel less alone, or encourages someone to advocate for their health and get checked, then every difficult part of this journey has a little more meaning.

Four years. So much has changed. And….I’m still here 🙏🏻

Much love and #staygutsy

I got so many questions about these crispy potatoe I got so many questions about these crispy potatoes after posting them on my stories, so here is the highly requested recipe!

The secret to that ultimate crunch is all about a simple pantry ingredient in the boiling water ☺️

What you Need:

* 8 Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and cut into wedges
* 1 teaspoon baking soda
* 1 tablespoon salt (for the water)

Seasoning

* 1 tablespoon paprika
* 2 teaspoons salt
* 1 tablespoon garlic powder
* 1/4 cup olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400
  2. Peel, wash, and cut your potatoes into even wedges.
 3. Add potatoes to a large pot. Cover with water, then add baking soda and 1 tablespoon salt.
 4. Bring to a boil and cook for about 5 minutes. Do not overcook!
 5. Drain the potatoes. No need to rinse. Shake the pot gently to rough up the edges: this step is essential…it’s for that crispy texture!
 6. Add paprika, salt, garlic powder, and olive oil. Toss well until fully coated.
 7. Transfer to a baking sheet and spread in a single layer. No parchment paper, you want direct contact with the pan for maximum crispiness!
 8. Bake for about 40 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.

Serve with your favourite dipping sauces or enjoy straight from the pan... trust me, they will not last long!

Much love and #staygutsy 💜xo
