Instant Pot Beef Bone Broth

May 22, 2018

Hello friends! Let’s talk bone broth.  Bone broth is different from regular broth in that the cooking process allows for the marrow to be cooked down and the minerals to be released from the bones. Typically bone broth takes from 24-48 hours to make, but if you have an @instantpotofficial you are done in two hours! How awesome is that?!

Bone broth has many benefits such as joint health, improving the immune system, and improving digestion. Bone broth is great for people who suffer from IBD because it helps to reduce inflammation and it “heals and seals” the gut. This “healing and sealing” is believed to improve leaky gut syndrome which is believed to be the root of many autoimmune diseases.

I enjoy sipping on my bone broth straight up with some lemon. If you don’t like to drink bone broth, you can use it to flavour soups, to saute veggies, to cook meat/fish.

What you Need

2-3 lbs of beef marrow bones

3 Carrots, roughly chopped

3 Stalks of Celery, roughly chopped

1 bulb of fennel, roughly chopped

1 Onion, roughly chopped

4 cloves of Garlic, whole

1 Bayleaf

2 tablespoons @bragglivefoods apple cider vinegar

4-5 cups of water

How to Make Bone Broth

Preheat your oven to 375. Season the marrow bones with salt and roast in the oven for 20 minutes, turning over once.

While your marrow bones are roasting, chop your veggies and add them to your Instant Pot

Add the roasted marrow bones to the Instant Pot and fill your pot with water.

Add the apple cider vinegar and let everything sit for 30 minutes (This is a critical step as the apple cider vinegar helps pull the minerals from the bones)

Secure the lid on your Instant Pot and ensure the pressure valve is in the sealing position.

Select: Soup, Low Pressure, and set the timer to 120 minutes

Once the timer goes off, let the pressure release naturally.  Remove the bones and vegetables from the Instant Pot and strain the broth.  Store in mason jars in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Hope you try this recipe, I know I’ll be having my cup of bone broth today!
